Better Gnomes and Gardens

April 16, 2012

Sometimes a Saturday morning walk delivers up more than fresh air, exercise and a croissant from the bakery. It was the usual dogs, joggers and hungry water birds until I crossed the road to get to the bakery and found the little park at the entry to St Peters train station had been colonised by, … More Better Gnomes and Gardens

The new #wickingbed has been very successful. I planted 4 #blackjackzucchini seedlings into the top sugarcane mulch layer with a bit of potting mix and up they came. I can never decide what I like most about growing zucchini... the flowers tossed in rice flower and gently shallow fried or if you don't let the zucchinis grow too big... #fridgepickles. Combine in a saucepan roughly half cup sugar to 1 cup vinegar plus spices of choice eg peppercorns, mustard seeds, ginger, turmeric. Boil and pour over sliced zucchini in a sterilised-still-hot jar. Seal with lid, cool on bench, store in fridge. #alwayssavethepicklejuice #frugalandfabulous #LiveSimpleHomeMadeGrownLocalCreativeBetter New blog post up on WordPress. After a decade of living in tiny apartments in the inner-city of Sydney, Australia with my husband referred to in my posts as the Gorgeous One (G.O.) while I worked in corporate-legal and the G.O. in civil earthworks we relocated 500 kilometres north in December 2015 to our home in the Nambucca Valley to follow our dream of living simply and creatively. We travelled around Australia in 2016. Now we work on our 1930’s house, have a vegetable garden and a dog plus share a flock of backyard chickens with our neighbour. These days I’m a student: something I dreamed of doing for many years, currently studying permaculture; and a freelance horticulture, design and social media consultant, which gives me the opportunity to share and apply what I learn. From time to time I write about day-to-day life, past & present, people & places and take snapshots with my smart phone. Copyright © 2011-2019. All Rights Reserved.
