If I could be another, different me, I’d live in St Kilda
(Melbourne, Victoria, Australia). My first visit to Melbourne 20 years ago, and the day I stepped off a tram onto Fitzroy St, St Kilda, started a love affair. There’s lots of things I love about Melbourne but I feel about them like a visitor does, all ooohs & ahhs, but in St Kilda I don’t feel like the tourist I really am. Maybe I feel at home because in some ways it’s like the inner west area of Sydney where I live now, but 20 years ago I’d had hardly any experience of cities and certainly only the civilised parts. St Kilda has evolved and so have I, but one of the icons of St Kilda that has changed little is its Luna Park, and in the ongoing Sydney v. Melbourne competition that wins it a round. People go there with their kids to revisit their own childhood memories and create new ones. I like its face because even though it’s different & stands out, it’s comfortable in its own history, and you can be that in St Kilda.

I love the entrance to Luna Park. That alone would lure me inside to see what else I was missing.

One of the great things about Luna Park both in Melbourne & Sydney is it’s free to walk in and around 🙂
